Talented designers & makers: Carolina Emme

{ENG} Finally I’m back with my blog, but this time I want to write about something different from my jewelry, something I care a lot: I want to introduce you talented makers, designers and artisans, that give us the opportunity to choose something different, with a higher quality and a much better ethic than the big fast fashion chains.

Let’s start with Carolina, italian designer and maker behind her clothing brand Carolina Emme. I loved the lines, the colors and the inspirations of her creations ever since I found her out!

{ITA} Finalmente torno a scrivere sul blog, e lo faccio con un intento diverso dal mostrarvi i miei gioielli, ma a cui tengo molto: farvi conoscere talentuosi makers, designers e artigiani, che ci danno l’opportunità di scegliere qualcosa di diverso dalle grandi catene di fast fashion, con una qualità più alta e un’etica nettamente migliore.

Inizio con Carolina, che disegna e crea abbigliamento per il suo brand indipendente Carolina Emme.

Ho amato le linee, i colori e le ispirazioni delle sue creazioni non appena l’ho scoperta!

{ENG} Carolina describes herself as “28 years old, Capricorn ascendant Taurus. Not bad, isn’t it?”

She’s the founder of the microbrand Carolina Emme, she lives and works in Sardinia. Soon she will move to Turin but, for the moment, she enjoys Autumn days in her native land. She’s a dreamer, a romantic “book eater” and a “hopeless grumpy”.

“I started this profession after studying at Istituto di Moda Burgo (Burgo fashion school) and after the internship in an atelier, to learn every stage of designing and making a collection. I always had this dream of creating clothing, but I’ve been sewing just for about 5 years.

I’ve never thought about making something else in my life: obviously, sometimes life brought me towards other directions, but at the end I’ve always come back here. My profession is basically what I am, I feel that it represents me”.

{ITA} “Sono Carolina, ho 28 anni e sono Capricorno con ascendente Toro. Un caratterino niente male, quindi. Sono la creatrice del micro brand Carolina Emme e vivo e produco in Sardegna. A breve mi trasferirò a Torino ma, per ora, mi godo le giornate d'autunno nella mia terra d'origine. Sono anche una sognatrice, una romantica divoratrice di libri e un’indomabile bisbetica.

Ho iniziato questo mestiere dopo gli studi all'Istituto di Moda Burgo e dopo un periodo di tirocinio in un atelier, per imparare non solo a disegnare e pensare ad una collezione, ma anche a tagliare e confezionare gli abiti. Ho sempre avuto questo sogno, creare vestiti, ma a cucirli e a vederli indossati ho iniziato da pochissimo: un lustro o poco più.

Non sono mai riuscita a pensare di fare altro nella mia vita: certo, spesso le strade mi hanno portato in altre direzioni, ma alla fine, per un motivo o per un altro, sono tornata qui. Chissà, magari tra due o dieci anni, per scelta o per forza, abbandonerò questa strada, ma quello che faccio oggi è un po' quello che sono, sento che mi rappresenta in maniera efficace”.

{ENG} “Since I created Carolina Emme, many things changed and, little by little, even my personal philosophy did. I’m part of the “Fashion Revolution” state of mind, fighting against fast fashion and thoughtless consumerism, which damage not only the environment, but also the workers and the local economy.

In my own work I try to make good products, under different points of view. The fabrics, for example, are reclaimed. Quality italian materials, the majority of them wool, cotton and pure silk, lying abandoned in some warehouses. I select and use them for each of my collections. Besides, I make everything by hand. I dedicate care and attention both in making the clothing, and in the customer service, always trying to help with the needs of the customer. I think this is good both for our Country’s economy and for our heart. As I said, I’m a romantic person, in my opinion the future goes towards this direction: more connected one to another, caring more for other people’s needs, more respectful in our walking across the world”.

{ITA} “Da quando ho creato Carolina Emme, sono cambiate un sacco di cose e, mano a mano, anche la mia filosofia personale. Aderisco al filone della "Fashion Revolution", contro la fast fashion e il consumo sconsiderato, che va a danneggiare non solo l'ambiente, ma anche i lavoratori e l'economia locale.

Nel mio piccolo cerco quindi di rendere i miei prodotti "buoni" sotto diversi punti di vista. I tessuti, per esempio, sono di recupero. Materiali di qualità, italiani, quasi tutti lane e cotoni e sete pure, che giacciono abbandonati nei magazzini. Io passo tutto al setaccio e poi riutilizzo per ognuna delle mie collezioni.

In più, faccio tutto a mano. Metto cura e attenzione sia nella creazione di abiti, sia nel contatto con il cliente, venendo incontro alle sue necessità. E’ qualcosa che fa bene sia all'economia del nostro paese che al nostro cuore.

Come ho detto, sono romantica, per me il futuro va in questa direzione: più connessi tra di noi, più attenti ai bisogni degli altri, più rispettosi nel nostro avanzare per il mondo”.

{ENG} “The new Autumn/Winter collection it’s a “melting pot” of what I like the most about Autumn, its colors and how I love wearing them. That’s why you can find a bit of everything: bright colors, like red and yellow, and more tenuous ones, like neutral and black. Autumn for me is a blanket on my legs, that’s why I chose a bit of tartan and a lot of warm and soft sweaters. The inspiration comes mainly from the gypsy culture, from the Seventies, whose spirit and atmospheres I like a lot, and from a beloved person, with extraordinary style and soul.

{ITA} “La nuova collezione autunno inverno di quest'anno è un po' il melting pot di ciò che mi piace dell'autunno, dei suoi colori e di come mi piace indossarli, quindi troviamo un po' di tutto: dai colori accesi, come il rosso e il giallo, a quelli più tenui, come i neutri e il nero. L'autunno per me è un plaid sulle gambe, così trovi anche un po' di tartan e un sacco di maglioni morbidi e caldi. L'ispirazione viene soprattutto dalla cultura gipsy, dagli anni '70, di cui mi piace moltissimo lo spirito e le atmosfere, e da una persona a me cara, con uno stile e un'anima meravigliosi e formidabili.
